email.sh script for syslog-ng using qmail
by L. Jankok 21 Oct '02

Hi, I have a e-mail.sh script which used /usr/bin/mail to send "logging" mails from syslog-conf. I am looking for some similar e-mail.sh script using qmail for the e-mail.sh I am using right now doesn't work. this is my current e-mail.sh script #!/bin/sh while read line; do echo $line | /usr/bin/mail -s "log alert" admin(a)example.net done A "ps -ef | grep -i syslog | grep -v grep" gives me the following output. root 14191 1 0 19:36:45 ? 0:00 /usr/local/sbin/syslog-ng root 14193 14192 0 19:36:45 pts/2 0:00 /bin/sh /usr/local/sbin/syslog-mail.sh root 14192 14191 0 19:36:45 pts/2 0:00 /bin/sh -c /usr/local/sbin/syslog-mail.sh

Config ?
by Jack Sasportas 21 Oct '02

21 Oct '02

I used a much older version of syslog-ng previously, but the newer version is a little different, so I just want to confirm a couple of things. 1. If I install the RPM under redhat 7.2 what do I need to do to basically insure that the old syslog isn't going to kick in etc. 2. I want to split any pop activity from maillog into poplog, so I configured what I thought would work, and it does most of the time, but there are times when I pop the server, and there is no long entry. Here is my entire config. Any help appreciated.... RE: [syslog-ng]separate logs from different sources

And of course you really don't need to have the filter statement in it at all if you use the $HOST macro. you could then just use: source net { tcp(); udp(); }; destination hostfile { file("/path/to/logs/$HOST"); }; log { source(net); destination(hostfile); }; Drew -----Original Message----- From: Hamilton, Andrew [mailto:Andrew.Hamilton@afccc.af.mil] Sent: Monday, October 21, 2002 8:56 AM To: syslog-ng(a)lists.balabit.hu Subject: RE: [syslog-ng]separate logs from different sources Olav, This should work for you. Of course you should substitute real names where I have placed the x's and the filter and destination names should be meaningful names. Whether you use TCP is up to you. You will need to use UDP because that is how Cisco routers send their logs. source net { tcp(); udp(); }; filter f_host { host("xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx"); }; destination hostfile { file("/path/to/logs/$HOST"); }; log { source(net); filter(f_host); destination(hostfile); }; Regards, Drew -----Original Message----- From: Olav Langeland [mailto:Olav.Langeland@activeisp.com] Sent: Monday, October 21, 2002 8:47 AM To: syslog-ng(a)lists.balabit.hu Subject: [syslog-ng]separate logs from different sources I want to send syslog from 3 different Cisco routers to a FreeBSD box and have syslog-ng separate them into different output files based on IP.
