Need toms information how to interpret the syslog-ng-ctl stats result. In particular the period of time for which the output is. The global setting stats_freq is set for every 5 minutes. Any thoughts on what is the statistics period. Anyway to modify it? CLASSIFICATION: UNCLASSIFIED Hello, So the file rotates now successfully – but what I have noticed is that after the file rotates it collects data for first few minute or so and then it stops collecting data (basically the file size never grows and timestamp never changes to the most latest when I check the file). I do see that syslog process/service is running. If I restart the service/process, it starts collecting data until the file rotation happens. Can you please let me know what would be causing this behavior? netcat tests
by Eric Benoit 06 Jun '18

06 Jun '18

Hi List, I wanted to send a test message to my syslog-ng server. I tried this: > echo -n "test message" | nc -4u -w1 192.168.100.10 514 But I saw no logs created on the syslog-ng server. I did see the udp package on wireshark. Will syslog-ng except my test message the way I have it formatted and log it, does my message need to be formatted in a specific way for syslog-ng to except and create a log? Also, should I change syslog-ng to TCP instead of UDP to better trouble shoot any network problems I might have pending my netcat test message looks ok for syslog-ng server to except and log? I'm not very good at articulating questions, so I hope what I wrote makes sense if it does not please let me know and I will spend some more time rephrasing my questions. Thank you for any suggestions or comments

syslog-ng 3.15.1 on solaris
by Szalai, Attila 31 May '18

31 May '18

Hi, We have a fairly complicated compiling system, so before I start to investigate my compiling issue I would like to ask here. Is there anybody who was able to compile 3.15.1 on solaris? (either x86 or sparc.) For me, it ended to linking process with this: ld: fatal: library -lsyslog-ng: not found collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status libtool: install: error: relink `modules/diskq/libdisk-buffer.la' with the above command before installing it In linux, the same code compiled/linked fine. CLASSIFICATION: UNCLASSIFIED Hello, Currently we have syslog writing a single file (syslog.log) that just grows exponentially? What we are trying to do is rotate the syslog.log file once it reaches 500 MB (as well as looking into rotating file every 24 hours)? Once the log file rotates, it creates a new file named syslog.log.0 and so on.. Can someone please tell me how do I go about doing so and what specific configuration I need to have it in place in syslog-ng.conf file to achieve this?
