XMPP destination for syslog-ng
Hi, My name is Ilija, and I'm a undergraduate student of computer science. I'm interested if this project is open for contribution apart from GSOC, since as I saw that there is no activity on it's github repository? Best regards, Ilija
Hi, The most active developers are currently on holiday, that's why there is no activity on github. But otherwise, the project very much appreciates contributions, you do not have to be on GSoC for that :) An XMPP destination certainly sounds interesting. If you already have patches, you can post it on this mailing list for review, or just fork our repository on github. If you have questions about the development, you can post them here as well, we do not have a separate devel list. Kind Regards, Robert Fekete On 07/16/2013 06:32 PM, IKAC wrote:

Hi Robert, Thanks for help. This idea was proposed for gsoc2013, and I read that there was a student interested but I guess no one was accepted. Anyway, I'm interested in it and I'll try to find suitable library for XMPP protocol written for C language. Is it ok for using just any third party library? Hi Ilija, Actually the XMPP destination is already under development, but not within the GSoC program. If you need any more information about it, do not hesitate to ask. You may ask Gergely Nagy (Algernon) for more information to help developing syslog-ng. Kind regards, Gergely Csordás On 2013-07-17 23:20, IKAC wrote:

Is there perhaps any way to collaborate on the xmpp destination? Any github links, blogs/twitters to follow? On Jul 17, 2013 11:37 PM, "Gergely Csordás" <sirnelkher@gmail.com> wrote:

Indeed, there was a student interested, but other proposals were accepted instead. The same student has been working towards an XMPP destination however, outside of GSoC, albeit fairly slowly.
Anyway, I'm interested in it and I'll try to find suitable library for XMPP protocol written for C language. Is it ok for using just any third party library?
While it would likely be possible to cooperate on the XMPP destiantion, I believe it would not only be easier, but better for other reasons too, to find something else interesting. I'm happy to share a whole lot of ideas, if you're interested. As for third party libraries: as long as their license is compatible with the license syslog-ng uses (GPL-2+/LGPL-2+ mix), they should be fine. Apologies for the late answer, and for not making it clear that XMPP is being worked on, I hope we can find something else interesting for you! -- |8]
