simple, 0.3.18 is greater than 0.3.9, syslog-ng 1.6.12 is newer than
1.6.8.

So if you want to stick to 1.6.x you should use 1.6.12, which should
have libol bundled in the tarball.

Whether to use 2.0.x or 1.6.x is your call. 1.6.x is in strict
maintenance mode now, 2.0 is the current stable version, everybody is
urged to use that instead of 1.6.x. However 2.0.x is a complete
reimplementation of 1.6.x so it might be rougher around the edges.
