Upcoming changes in unofficial packaging
Hi! I started packaging syslog-ng 3.6.1 for Debian and Ubuntu, to provide binaries at the usual[0] location. In the process, I intend to simplify and clean up the packaging considerably. This also means dropping support for a few older platforms. [0]: http://asylum.madhouse-project.org/projects/debian/ So beginning with 3.6.1, powerpc is going to be dropped, along with Debian Squeeze, and anything prior to Ubuntu Trusty (14.04) (mind you, I may need to add back Precise (12.04), for Travis CI). Furthermore, for Debian Wheezy, one will likely need to use the Debian backports repository[1] along with mine. [1]: http://backports.debian.org/Instructions/ I expect packages to be ready in a few days. -- |8]

Furthermore, this also means that I will stop maintaining multiple versions of the Debian packaging. The unofficial repo will host the latest stable (3.6), the same version I'm pushing into Debian. For older versions, if they're available in a distribution, updates will come through that channel. The Debian backports archive has syslog-ng 3.5 packages for Wheezy, and Ubuntu Trusty+ comes with 3.5 too (albeit not 3.5.6). I am not going to bother compiling 3.5 for Ubuntu, but if anyone else does the job, I'm happy to include the result in my archive. -- |8]

Hi Gergely, hello list, It was only after applying voodoo to debian/rules for a whole day that I read your message below: On 11/05/14 08:03, Gergely Nagy wrote:

... but then I was unable to find the syslog-ng 3.6 packages. Did anything go wrong compiling them? Are there any 3.6 Debian or Ubuntu packages available? I would like to use 3.6 on Ubuntu because I'm still using the wonderful log file parsing in syslog-ng to add malicious hosts to my firewall's xt_recent table, and syslog-ng has the "pseudofile()" destination. Best regards, Valentijn

The unofficial 3.6 packages weren't completed. The source is ready[1], and it can be built on recent Debian and Ubuntu systems, but I never got around to compile the pre-built packages. I'd suggest grabbing the debianised sources, and compiling it yourself - it doesn't take all that much. [1]: https://github.com/algernon/syslog-ng-debian -- |8]
