Now that the $HOST thing is working great, how about a new feature for making directories if they don't exist. Eg, I'll be switching a large number of machines to point towards the new syslog host, and instead of having to go through and create the directories for each host, it'd be nice for the program to auto create them if needed. Obviously, this should be configurable. Its no biggie, but just thought it'd be a nice feature =) --- Nigel Bovey IHUG Network Operations Team

Sounds like IRIX, which used-to make a file for each unsuccessful login attempt. You could unsuccessfully log-in as "../../../etc/hosts.deny" and watch IRIX create the file. I'd prefer to leave that kind of feature off by default. -- old advice for the modern Perl hacker Skalat maðr rùnar rísta, No-one should scribe runes, nema ráda vel kunni. who can't read what he's carved gamle råd for den moderne Perl hackeren <<Egla>>/"Egil's Saga"

Well, this is a totally different thing you'll find. The idea is it only creates directories specified in the syslog-ng.conf. With the $HOST variable these are somewhat dynamic, but nothing to the extent of that mentioned above. And I agree it should be off by default. --- Nigel Bovey IHUG Network Operations Team
