removing old versions of syslog-ng
Hi All, I recently inherited some old syslog-ng relay servers and I'm wanting to find the best way to upgrade them to syslog-ng PE 5.0. The syslog-ng versions are · 3.0.3 · 2.1.4 The PE admin guide mentions that upgrading is supported from OSE version 3.2. This leads me to understand I'll need to remove any version I find that's lower than 3.2, yet I do not see an uninstall script or reference to uninstalling syslog-ng in any of the documentation. Is uninstalling as simple as just removing all files and directories? Thanks, Tim Tim Lavin, Security Engineer Apollo Education Group, Inc | Security Operations 4035 S. Hi, It might be more of a support question (just submit a ticket if you want to contact them), as this list is primarily discussing with the open source version. Regarding your question, I am not using the PE version but upgrading OSE to PE is usually like about changing the init scripts and making sure that the PE version starts after boot. There's really no data to migrate especially in a relay mode. How were those syslog-ng versions deployed? Installed from source or a package? Again, I was only trying to give some hints here, in the hope it'll be useful. On Mar 3, 2016 15:52, "Tim Lavin" <Tim.Lavin@apollo.edu> wrote:

The method of uninstalling is depends on how you installed syslog-ng at the first place. And also the version of the syslog-ng. And a bit on what architecture are you using. So how was the syslog-ng installed into that machines? (through RPM, tgz, make install, etc.) From where you downloaded the install media?
