[Bug 186] New: resettable stats
https://bugzilla.balabit.com/show_bug.cgi?id=186 Summary: resettable stats Product: syslog-ng Version: 3.4.x Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: unspecified Component: syslog-ng AssignedTo: bazsi@balabit.hu ReportedBy: szaki@balabit.hu Type of the Report: --- Estimated Hours: 0.0 According to https://lists.balabit.hu/pipermail/syslog-ng/2011-October/017457.html It would be a good idea to be able to reset the statistic, when needed, without full restart, or any magic like altering the config a bit and reload. So I suggest the enable_stats_reset(yes) default option, for sources and destinations (everywhere are statcounters defined), and the syslog-ng-ctl reset-stats command - to reset the statistic where the enable_stats_reset(yes) option allows this. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.balabit.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
https://bugzilla.balabit.com/show_bug.cgi?id=186 --- Comment #1 from Balazs Scheidler <bazsi@balabit.hu> 2012-07-23 11:05:22 --- I would hesitate an option to control this. I'm not against the syslog-ng-ctl reset-stats idea though, just the separate option. It might even make sense to make it possible to specify which counter should be reset, so that it is not an all-or-nothing operation. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.balabit.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
https://bugzilla.balabit.com/show_bug.cgi?id=186 --- Comment #2 from szaki@balabit.hu 2012-07-23 15:29:55 --- Ok, trust it to the admin, to avoid resetting this by mistake :) I think there should be a reset-stats without additional parameters would reset all, and with parameter list, it would reset te given logpaths stats. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.balabit.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugzilla.balabit.com/show_bug.cgi?id=186 --- Comment #4 from Gergely Nagy <algernon@balabit.hu> 2013-12-20 23:38:53 --- I believe something this has been addressed (at least partly) by the stats-lifetime() stuff, so there is a bit of activity on this front. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.balabit.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
https://bugzilla.balabit.com/show_bug.cgi?id=186 --- Comment #5 from Balazs Scheidler <bazsi@balabit.hu> 2013-12-21 07:40:19 --- well, not really. it is now able to drop dynamic counters after stats-lifetime but we never drop static ones. so a reset feature would still make sense -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.balabit.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
