Question about flags(ignore-case) option
I have the following filter set up: filter f_wireless_devices { host("system") flags(ignore-case); }; and I'm getting a syntax error. If I remove the flags(ignore-case), filter f_wireless_devices { host("system"); }; It is fine. On page 58 of the 3.0 sys admin guide, I have the syntax correct. Is there any other way to do this? Maybe put an ignore_case(yes) in the options sections at the top of the configuration file? Hi, In the balabit site syslog-ng(open source edition) is available only for amd64 and i386 platform. Is it available for intel based x86_64 machine ? Regards, Vaibhav
x86_64 is the Official name for amd64 Intel licenced the technology from AMD for their core 2 and Xenon series chips. the reason people call it amd64 is it originally was only on AMD chips before the industry standardized on it as the 64 bit replacement for IA32 which was more commonly called x86 if you are asking about the Intel Itanium chips that use IA64 thats another story however when in doubt you can always compile from source Jain, Vaibhav (GE Healthcare) wrote:

Hi, Thanks for your quick response. Could you please suggest me how to compile and make the RPM for Intel x86_64 processor from syslog-ng source code? I have downloaded syslog-ng_3.0.3.tar.gz (sorce tar) from balabit site. As I am a beginner in this field and don't have more knowledge of syslog-ng. If you can provide me the steps for compilation and RPM then it would be helpful for me. you need an rpm spec file for your didtro or a src.rpm and depending on your distro and the version of RPM you use the rpmbuild command or the rpm command to compile it. what distro are you for an rpm looking for also as i said amd64 rpms will work on intel x86_64 chips because they use identical instruction sets. the only difference is the intel chips have newer addons to sse and the amd chips have an extended 3dnow set however these are almost never enabled in rpms because there would be compatiblity issues between different revisions of the same chip if they were. Does your build system support creating source rpm's? The main problem with the naming scheme as I understand it is that yum do not like the amd64 arch. So if you could gernerate source rpm's it would be pretty easy to rebuild. Cheers /Peter Östlin
I don't think yum cares about the names of rpm files - all of the important details, including the target architecture, are embedded in in the file, in the rpm header and yum uses that, regardless of the name of the file. Here's an example where I deliberately rename an rpm file to a stupid value that is unrelated to its real name or contents. You can see that yum has no problem figuring out the real content of the file and that it's an upgrade for an rpm called mx50-diags that is already on the system. Sure, this is actually what I mean. The arch of the syslog-ng package is set to amd64 (the name does not really matter) and I can't seem to get yum to understand that. Might be possible to solve using yum configuration but as far as I understand yum on a default Fedora or CentOS installation will not find packages with amd64 as arch. /Peter

Hi, I think I've fixed this although I don't have the environment right now. I've uploaded the fixed package here: http://people.balabit.hu/bazsi/syslog-ng-client-3.0.4-1.rhel5.x86_64.rpm Can you please confirm that it works? Hi, The proper solution would be to a release, which I wanted to do, but since I still can't judge when I could do that, here's a link with 3.0.4 amd64 rpm, patched the same way as the previous client edition: http://people.balabit.hu/bazsi/syslog-ng-3.0.4-1.rhel5.x86_64.rpm Sorry, that it took so long. Hi,
I think I've fixed this although I don't have the environment right now.

This package works using yum, thanks. The key is what arch the package presents it self as. Execute: rpm -qp --qf="%{arch}\n" syslog-ng-client-3.0.4-1.rhel5.x86_64.rpm and it reports x86_64. The previous package presents it self as amd64. I consulted the yum mailing list and it turns out amd64 is above x86_64 in the arch listing, this mean you can install x86_64 package on a am64 processor but not the other way around. You can 'trick' you system to think it is amd64 but I believe building x86_64 packages is the right way to go. /Peter

I have the following filter set up:
filter f_wireless_devices { host("system") flags(ignore-case); };
and I'm getting a syntax error. If I remove the flags(ignore-case),
filter f_wireless_devices { host("system"); };
It is fine. On page 58 of the 3.0 sys admin guide, I have the syntax correct.
Is there any other way to do this? Maybe put an ignore_case(yes) in the options sections at the top of the configuration file?
it should be: host("system" flags(ignore-case)); this is indeed a bug in the documentation.
