It buffers the messages in /var/lib/syslog-ng/ by default in Linux, but in our system this directory will not exist.

Not currently, however I plan to add functionality that will cause syslog-ng to use the same directory as specified by the --persist-file switch. Would that be ok for you? -- Bazsi
