Sounds like IRIX, which used-to make a file for each unsuccessful login attempt. You could unsuccessfully log-in as "../../../etc/hosts.deny" and watch IRIX create the file.
I'd prefer to leave that kind of feature off by default.
Well, this is a totally different thing you'll find. The idea is it only creates directories specified in the syslog-ng.conf. With the $HOST variable these are somewhat dynamic, but nothing to the extent of that mentioned above. And I agree it should be off by default. --- Nigel Bovey IHUG Network Operations Team
