I mean: internally too - for which hooks, including socket lookup...

I have another idea:
please log every packets matching your test environment: source and  
destination port is 80 in two separate rules, propably with --tcp- 
options,  in all chains of the mangle, nat and filter tables. The  
packets somewhere disappears. But the question is: where?
