Sorry for being ignorant.. just.. would it be a lot of work to make this
work with <= 2.4.22 ?  We tend to use vendor kernels with one or two extra
patches only.

Maybe you could just say what needs to be done to get this to work under
<= 2.4.22 and I would try it myself?
