I have seen this already, and is related to /dev/kmsg support.

algernon was looking into the issue but I can't remember a solution and he is on debconf2013


as a workaround can you change back to reading /proc/kmsg instead
of /Dev/kmsg?



if you are using the system source you'd have to disable that and
explicitly add /Dev/log and /prox/kmsg
