I ended up adding support for embedding libsyslog-ng-crypto's stuff into libsyslog-ng, with a configure-time flag. For the time being, this is on the
feature/3.3/crypto-linkin branch of my repo, pending review.

It doesn't fix the .a<->.so issue, but that's a separate thing.
