well, I agree with that completely, however this should be performed by the distributor/installer of the syslog-ng source.

I used to customize the various installation directories from the configure script, but I got into couple of problems, so I ceased doing that.

./configure --localstatedir=/var/lib/misc 

should be the solution.

Setting the bug to INVALID, but please reopen if you disagree. :)
