example syslog-ng.conf that produces the segfault

If syslog-ng is started ./syslog-ng -f /etc/syslog-ng/syslog-ng.conf --pidfile=/tmp/foo.pid
then it will segfault:
Feb 28 00:13:50 basra kernel: syslog-ng[2974]: segfault at bf418ffc ip b7ca9cc3 sp bf419000 error 6 in libc-2.8.so[b7c01000+130000]

If the 31th line is uncommented, syslog-ng starts just fine.
