[syslog-ng] 1.6.5 performance

I can't get 1.9.6 to build on my Linux boxen:

My main box is running Debian Sid so it has gcc4, but I even tried it on
a Debian Woody box with gcc 2.9.5 and the same thing happened. What is
going wrong here?
