[syslog-ng]Getting rid of --

How do I get rid of the two dashes between syslog-ng output and the actual 
message? I've tried this:

template("$ISODATE $MESSAGE\n")

but I still get "--" between the date and my message.

current message output:
2004-01-10T09:18:52+0100 -- my_lovely_message

desired message output:
2004-01-10T09:18:52+0100 my_lovely_message
