[syslog-ng]does syslog-ng conflict with syslogd? how avoid

I just installed syslog-ng.  If I kill syslogd and
start the syslog-ng daemon will it capture messages from
apps trying to talk to syslogd transparently???

So to avoid conflicts and compatibility problems I just
have to kill syslogd and swap in the new daemon???

That would be great if so.... then if I could get
syslog-ng.conf done right I'm in business!!
