I want to be able to run traditional syslogd and syslog-ng simultaneously for system logs and for a network monitoring application, respectively. What can I do to prevent each from affecting the other (specifically, preventing syslog-ng from killing syslogd by default)? The reason for this is that the system and application are run by different teams.

 

I am running RHEL 5 and syslog-ng client 3.1.4.
