 the assertion is related to message reference counting. (particularly dropped by this code segment: https://github.com/syslog-ng/syslog-ng/blob/master/lib/logmsg/logmsg.c#L1521)
 It is indicating that there was an unexpected scenario, and it might be a bug. Therefore I would rather continue this investigation as a https://github.com/syslog-ng/syslog-ng/issues issue. But if you would like to stay with the mailing list it is also excellent.

 We need as many information about your system as possible to investigate why this is happening.

Hi All,

 

We’re seeing some instances of this error message

ERROR:lib/logmsg/logmsg.c:1521:log_msg_ref: assertion failed: (LOGMSG_REFCACHE_VALUE_TO_REF(old_value) >= 1)

I’ve had a quick search about and can’t figure out what it actually means. Can anyone shed some light and possibly some guidance on how to avoid it happening?
