I wasn't able to reproduce the problem yet, but I only have easy access
to solaris/amd64 (but imo, sparc shouldn't matter here), so a truss
output would be useful.

Something like:

 truss -d -l -o syslog-ng.truss -rall -vall syslog-ng -F ....

This should produce enough details to give me some hints, hopefully.
